Daily Mail reports an Afghan father, his wife and their son have been jailed for life after a jury found them guilty of killing three teenage sisters and a co-wife in what the judge described as a 'despicable' and 'heinous' crime.

The jury had taken 15 hours to find Mohammad Shafia, 58, his wife Tooba Yahya, 42; and their son Hamed, 21, each guilty of four counts of first-degree murder.

The four bodies were found in June 2009 in a car submerged in a canal in Kingston, Ontario, where the family had stopped for the night on their way home from Niagara Falls.

Prosecutors said the daughters were killed because they dishonored the family by defying rules on dress, dating, socialising and going online.


After the verdict was read, the three defendants again declared their innocence in the killings of sisters Zainab, 19, Sahar 17, and Geeti, 13, as well as Rona Amir Mohammad, 52, Shafia's childless first wife in a polygamous marriage.


After the jury returned the verdicts, Mohammad Shafia, speaking through a translator, said: 'We are not criminal, we are not murderer, we didn't commit the murder and this is unjust.'

His weeping wife, Tooba, also declared the verdict unjust. She said: 'I am not a murderer, and I am a mother, a mother.'


Their son, Hamed, speaking in English said: 'I did not drown my sisters anywhere.'


But Judge Robert Maranger was unmoved, saying the evidence clearly supported their conviction for 'the planned and deliberate murder of four members of your family'.


'It is difficult to conceive of a more despicable, more heinous crime ... the apparent reason behind these cold-blooded, shameful murders was that the four completely innocent victims offended your completely twisted concept of honor ... that has absolutely no place in any civilized society.'

Why did beloved North Carolina school principal Dr Barry Bowe commit suicide?

There’s a lot to this story that remains a mystery!

Daily Mail reports a principal who described himself as a ‘Renaissance Man’ was found dead in his home Monday night.

Barry Bowe, 54, was fearful that he would be dismissed from his job amid an ongoing investigation from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district over a security incident at a school dance in December.

Only days before, parents at Northwest School of the Arts had launched a collective effort for him to be able to keep his post.

The news of his death shocked students of the Charleston, North Carolina school, who said he was genuinely concerned with their educations and futures.

Dr Bowe had requested a personal day Friday, but was supposed to be at work by Monday morning.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg school employee went to his house to check on him, calling the police after Dr Bowe didn't answer his door.

A neighbour, who was given a spare key, let police into Dr Bowe’s home, where they discovered his body in the garage.

ESPN reports the Philadelphia police department has released a surveillance video of a brutal attack following Monday's Winter Classic game in an effort to identify the three suspects involved in the beating of two men wearing New York Rangers jerseys outside a South Philadelphia cheesesteak shack.
The graphic video shows three suspects wearing Philadelphia Flyers jerseys beating and kicking the two victims outside Geno's Steaks in South Philly at 7:15 p.m.

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, one of the victims was an off-duty Woodbridge, N.J., police officer, who was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the attack. The second victim was the police officer's son.

According to the website, Broad Street Hockey, one of the suspects identified himself on the site's Facebook fan page and admitted he took part in the attack, but then backtracked.

A source told ESPNNewYork.com that he later denied his involvement to police but will be interviewed Thursday.

The other guys involved need to “man up” and turn themselves in.

Florida store Circle K fires clerk Eric Henderson for violating store policy for saving his own life against 3 armed robbers

There used to be a time in this country when men used to be real men like Eric Henderson and be appreciated for it.

Daily Mail reports a sales clerk explains how he was fired from his job: tackling an armed robber who threatened to shoot him.

Eric Henderson refused to back down when confronted by two female robbers in Pensacola Florida demanding he hand over cash from his Circle K register last week.

Catching a moment of rare opportunity, the 30-year-old grabbed the gun pointed at him by one of the alleged robbers and slammed her to the ground.

He then chased the pair out of the store where they fled in a waiting car.


Three suspects, Verna Sealey, 25, Leandra Austin, 25, and 19-year-old Eldridge Fontenot, were later arrested after the failed hold up but Mr Henderson was fired from his job after his bosses reviewed the CCTV footage of him taking on the suspects.

Worst Mom award 2011 to Jutrina Tillman for trying to choke her 5 yr old son over a video game

I’m a big supporter of physically disciplining children—firm believer in spanking a child. However, I draw the line at choking a 5 year old boy.

Daily Mail reports a mother has been accused of choking her five-year-old son because he would not stop playing with video game he received as a Christmas gift.

Jutrina Tillman also threatened her daughter with a butcher knife after she tried to protect her younger brother in the Christmas night confrontation.


Police said Tillman, 32, flew into a rage when her son continued to play his video games at their home in Phoenix, Arizona.

Tillman allegedly smashed her son's video game system on the floor and then dragged him into his bedroom where police said she started choking him.


Court records state Tillman's 13-year-old daughter ran into the bedroom after hearing her brother's cries for help and pushed her mother away to stop her from choking him.

The boy told investigators 'that his mom put her hand around his throat and squeezed until he thought he was going to fall asleep and closed his eyes.'

You’re about to witness a master criminal at work.

Daily Mail reports it was a lovely day for a Guinness for this beer burglar, but the way she went about stealing it is as impressive as it is illegal.


A video posted to YouTube shows how the woman, shopping with a man and young child, eying a 24-pack of Guinness along a wall in the store.


She casually walks over and, in a quick motion, scoops up the beer, lifts her dress and positions the case between her legs. Nonchalantly, the woman is then seen walking back to the man and child before eventually walking out of the camera’s view.

If you didn’t already know she had just stolen the beer, you wouldn’t have been able to tell by the way she walked, her gait virtually unchanged despite the case between her thighs.

Gateway Pundit reports on Christmas Day Aziz Yazdanpanah shot his family dead. He didn’t want his daughter dating a non-Muslim.

ABC News reported:

A Santa-suited gunman who killed six people on Christmas morning was the estranged husband of one of the victims and the father of two teenagers who died in the massacre.

Aziz Yazdanpanah, 56, showed up to his estranged wife’s apartment on Christmas morning dressed like St. Nick and opened fire shortly after the family had unwrapped presents.


Yazdanpanah then killed himself.


The six victims were identified by ABC affiliate WFAA as: Nasrin Rahmaty, 55, who was Yazdanpanah’s wife; Nona Yazdanpanah, 19, his daughter; Ali Yazdanpanah, 15, his son; Zohreh Rahmaty, 58, his sister-in-law; Hossein Zarei, 59, his brother-in-law; and Sahra Zarei, 22, his niece.

NBC Dallas Fort Worth reports a 19-year-old Houston-area man says he was beaten and a friend was slashed in the face as a group of men robbed him of his new pair of expensive Air Jordan shoes.

Efrain Espinoza says the men first tried to steal his cell phone, followed him from a party Monday to his home near Pearland and then swiped the $180 shoes during a fight.

A 19-year-old woman with him required treatment for a stab wound to her face.


"She was stabbed from the cheek to the chin. They did stitches inside and outside," the victim's cousin Virginia Costilla told KPRC in Houston

Daily Mail reports the man accused of kidnapping and murdering a University of North Carolina student president was found guilty today and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Laurence Lovette, now 21, was spared the death penalty as he was a minor when he murdered Eve Carson in 2008, who asked him and accomplice Demario Atwater to pray with her before they killed her.

The Orange County jury found Lovette guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and robbery. He showed no emotion as the verdict was read.

Hurd cut by Bears amid drug charge, free on bond-Drug Tracking case could rock NFL

This case could blows the doors off the NFL which is America’s most popular sport.

CBS News reports the attorney for Sam Hurd said Friday that his client had never sold drugs to other NFL players, hoping to put any rumors to rest as the wide receiver without a team prepares to fight federal drug charges.

Less than an hour after Hurd was cut by the Chicago Bears, defense attorney Brett Greenfield told reporters that his client planned to fight the charges and wanted one thing made clear.

"Sam has asked me to address one point, with respect to the rumors that Sam has been supplying drugs to other members of the NFL, out of respect to the NFL, out of respect to teammates and out of respect to other players, he 100 percent denies that allegation," Greenfield said. "It is patently and totally false. It just didn't happen."

A law enforcement source told CBS Radio's 670 The Score that Hurd was a top drug dealer in Chicago and police have a list "in the double-digits" of NFL players who were supplied drugs by the receiver.


League spokesman Brian McCarthy said the NFL was closely monitoring the situation. Asked about a report that authorities have a list of NFL players with ties to the drug case, McCarthy said: "We are not aware of such a list."

Rafiqul Islam, 30, blindfolded his wife Hawa Akhter, 21, and taped her mouth, telling her he was going to give her a surprise present.

Instead he made her hold out her hand and cut off all five fingers. One of his relatives then threw Ms Akhter's fingers in the dustbin to ensure doctors could not reattach them.

CBS Charlotte reports police say a York County woman admitted to killing a 67-year-old family friend in Florida and leaving the woman’s body underneath a pile of Christmas presents in her own home.

Patty White, 40, has been arrested for allegedly killing 67-year-old Michele O’Dowd in her Jacksonville home Friday. Jacksonville police indicated to CBS Charlotte that while no charges have been filed to this point, the case against White will be a homicide case.

Jacksonville police said White stole two of O’Dowd’s charge cards following her death, attempting to take money out of her account from at least two area ATMs. Police added that O’Dowd let White, a family friend, stay with her when she fell on difficult times.


WTEV reports that O’Dowd’s body was discovered by her twin brother that same day.

“There is nothing worse than when you walk inside and find your own sister brutally murdered over a stupid debit card,” the brother told WTEV.

Real Cold Case: Natalie Wood Case Reopened By LA Detectives after 30 years

I remember this case from I was a kid. Wood died under very flimsy circumstances and the suspicion fell on her then husband, Robert Wagner. He later took up with Jill St. John.

Homicide detectives have re-opened their investigation of Natalie Wood's death nearly 30 years after the actress drowned in the waters off Southern California in one of Hollywood's most enduring mysteries.

The renewed look at Wood's Nov. 29, 1981, death was prompted by new information detectives received about the case, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Thursday.

No additional details were provided, but a detective planned to hold a news conference Friday, and anyone with information about the case was being asked to contact sheriff's officials.

A spokesman for Wood's husband at the time of her death, Robert Wagner, said the family trusts the sheriff's department will take appropriate action but has not been contacted about the case being re-opened.

Major leaguer Wilson Ramos rescued

In Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela, kidnappings are a common occurrence. It’s a totalitarian state where personal freedom is limited to the whims of a dictator.

Many times kidnappings don’t have a happy ending like this one. But, I’m sure since this one involved a major league ballplayer, it was an opportunity for Chavez to get some gook PR.

Venezuelan police rescued Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos on Friday, two days after he was kidnapped, officials announced.


Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami said on state television that Ramos was "safe and sound" and that he was rescued by police and National Guard commandos. He said three men were arrested in the kidnapping.


Information Minister Andres Izarra initially reported the rescue via Twitter, saying Ramos was "found alive by security forces in mountainous zone," in the area of Montalban in central Carabobo state.


Izarra said it was "a rescue operation by air," which was authorized earlier in the day by President Hugo Chavez. "Ramos free!," said one message on Izarra's account.


El Aissami said one of those arrested in the abduction was a Colombian "linked to paramilitary groups and to kidnapping groups."


He gave few details of the rescue but said police were taking Ramos his hometown of Valencia, about 90 miles (150 kilometers) west of Caracas. He said Ramos would first undergo medical checks at the police station and then be reunited with his family.


Ramos' mother celebrated, exclaiming on television: "Thanks to God!"


"Thanks to my country, to my neighbors and to my family, who were supporting us," she said. Shortly afterward, she spoke with her son by phone and said jubilantly: "He's fine.
