Although the child abuse allegations at Penn State University are shocking, I got a very uneasy feeling how the media seems to rush to judgment that all these accusations must be true before the matter has been adjudicated in a court of law.
What happened to the concept of innocent before proven guilty? Does the heinousness of child abuse or child rape mean we automatically suspended our system of jurisprudence?
I’m not taking sides in this. I’m not a Penn State graduate or a fan of the football team. However, I feel there’s something more is going on here. Something ugly and dangerous that shouldn’t be the case where a person is entitled to have their day in court, face their accusers, and the state has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the charges are true.
And what if all the allegations are lies? The media and many people were so certain about the Duke Lacrosse case. How did that turn out?
