I think it’s safe to say that the political website (Politico) which was founded by former writers from the Washington Post have badly damaged their credibility in the wake of their very shoddy reporting of alleged sexual harassment claims against GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain.
I’m not a professional reporter, but I did work for my high school newspaper. If I had done exactly the kind of reporting Politico did on a story, my 18 year editor-in-chief would have thrown it back in my face.
So now Politico is desperately trying to repair their soiled reputation with a story that boldly says that Herman Cain launched a sexual harassment fight during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association. They write a few lines about Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill, cite some statistics on how sexual harassment cases increased since those confirmation hearing and then stick in the following quote by Herman Cain:
“This bill opens the door for opportunists who will use the legislation to make some money,” Cain, then CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, told Nation’s Restaurant News. “I’m certainly for civil rights, but I don’t know if this bill is fair because of what we’ll have to spend to defend ourselves in unwarranted cases.”
So how does this quote constitute a fight against Sexual Harassment?
No explanation is given in the rest of the article as to what kind of fight did Herman Cain wage against Sexual Harassment. What did he do? If anything Herman Cain was giving a warning about FALSE sexual harassment claims and how damaging and costly it would be for businesses to defend.
So once again, Politico puts out a misleading headline to blur the facts. When will these guys ever learn? Try never because Politico and the rest of the mainstream aren’t in it for the professionalism. They’re in it for the kill and the majority of Americans plainly see it.
