I had high hopes for Texas Gov Rick Perry and had written supportive posts about him. After his first debate, I was one of the earliest bloggers to criticize his performance and warned that he needed to step up his game.
Debates one and two went by and I didn’t see an improvement. Finally, in his last debate he seemed to wake up and got aggressive with Mitt Romney. I thought he did a good job, but others knocked him pretty badly.
Then word got out that he was going to skip debates and even Rush Limbaugh thought that was a good idea. It doesn’t happen too often, but I think Rush got it wrong. Like it or not the debate format is extremely important.
But, this video is not taken at a debate and Perry isn’t helping himself here with this performance.

Rick Perry has got people talking - but for all the wrong reasons.
The GOP presidential candidate gave a speech in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Friday night which has prompted concerns from his fans and criticism from his opponents. In it, he appears to be unusually expressive, rambling and sometimes even incoherent. His tone and pitch verge from the manic to the somber and subdued as he puts on strange voices and waves his arms in the air.

I like Perry. He’s done a wonderful job in Texas. But, as much as it hurts me to admit it, I can’t see him as the GOP nominee going toe to toe with Barack Obama and winning. He’d be a far better president than Obama, but he doesn’t have the ability to sell it to the American people.
