Of course Obama is gonna be popular in states with the highest concentration of people living on the public dole.
His base of support are zero-value voters (47% that pay no Federal income taxes) that contribute nothing to society and yet reap the benefits other taxpayers kick into the public kitty.
This is what has to change after the next election with those 47% contributing some taxes of their own.
