Marlins agree on six-year, $106M contract with Jose Reyes

As a Mets fan, I dreaded this day that I knew was coming.  But, it still hurts.  I’m very angry at Fred Wilpom who should sell the team if he can’t hack keeping its star players!
The Sporting News reports it appears Jose Reyes will be the first big-name free-agent to sign this offseason.
Reyes and the Miami Marlins agreed on a six-year, $106 million contract Sunday night, according to multiple reports. The deal is pending a physical. The contract does not contain a no-trade clause.
ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas reported that Miami increased its initial offer, which was about $90 million, and included a $22 million option for 2018 with a $5 million buyout, which would bump the deal's value to $111 million.
ESPN's Jayson Stark reported that Reyes will receive $102 million over six years ($17 million per season) and that the buyout is $4 million.
Miami's sweetened offer forced the New York Mets out of the bidding Sunday. General manager Sandy Alderson told reporters that the team would not try to match the Marlins if the reported figures were accurate.
"I don't believe Mets' fans will be surprised if these reports are true that Jose may not be back," he said. "You have to draw a line somewhere and based on our experience, not just with Jose—but with multiyear contracts generally, and not just with our multiyear contracts, but all multiyear contracts generally—we decided that there were some conceptual limitations to where we would go."

There’s going to be a backlash in New York.  Mets fans want a winner and care not about the Mets financial problems.
